Christmas

John 3:15-21

" That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."

It has been referred to as the “Most wonderful time of the Year,” many people today may not have an accurate understanding of why.  Sure, there are the visits with family and the giving of gifts, and let us not forget about the meals and delicious deserts that will be offered, the decorations, the songs playing on the radio and I am sure we could go on, but none of those are the real reason for the season…

Why is Christmas the most wonderful time of the year?  In my opinion it is because the whole world (practically anyway) are knowingly or not acknowledging the Creator, Jesus Christ the Lord.  Many do not acknowledge Jesus as God or Saviour, or at all, but they celebrate Christmas in one form or another and this holiday (Holy Day) has been set forth for as long as any of us have been alive as Christ’s birthday.  Whether the dates are accurate or not, that is what December 25 is celebrated as.

Years ago a friend of mine produced a video about the true meaning of Christmas and I believe it does a good job of pointing us back to the true reason for the season.  He has given me permission to post it here and share it with you so pop some pop corn (eat it or put it on a string for decorations) and gather the family around to learn about the “Greatest Gift.”
